Cuisinart WM SW2 Dual Sandwich Nonstick Electric

Many reviewers are complaining about only being able to make "thin sandwiches" with this press. I've owned it for 8 months now, and it has worked perfectly for every single sandwich I have ever put in there.

Last night, I made a meatball and marinara stuffed sandwich. The meatballs were about 3 inches tall, cut in half, so 1.5 inches in the sandwich. I put some marinara sauce and mozzarella, the top piece of bread, and it worked perfectly.

I have no idea what these people are putting in their sandwiches, but if you plan on 6 inches of sandwich (vertically, that is), then no this grill may not work for you. However, those 6-inch-tall monstrosities are probably not legally classified as "sandwiches" once they get that tall anyway.

It's a sandwich grill. It fits two pieces of bread, some cheese, some meat, a few veggies, and it squeezes your sandwich together and cooks from both sides. When the green light is lit, your sandwich is done! It's easy. It's fast. It's high quality and still looks/functions like new after 8 months of heavy use (heavy being at least 3 times a week, usually 5-7 times a week. My household loves hot sandwiches.)

Easy to clean - just wipe it out with a moist paper towel when it's still warm (don't burn yourself like I'm wont to do).

Another fun idea: I use this grill to make omelets. Scramble a few eggs in a bowl with a fork; mix in some green onions, ham, and cheese; a few dashes of tobasco sauce; pour the bowl in the grill and clamp down. In 5 minutes, you'll have a perfectly-cooked, square-shaped omelet.

  1. I'm not big on having all these extra appliances, but I have to tell you, this sandwich maker is great. So great, that I ordered one for my in-laws and I'm ordering 2 more today. At this price, they are truly a bargain. French toast, grilled sandwiches come out great on this and it is far less messy than using pans on the stove. I think this would be a great item for a child away at school to have. They could use it in their dorm room and have a great grilled sandwich in 5 minutes.

  2. I was skeptical, but heated it up (in seconds), made a tuna melt (no mess) and had it nice and crispy in less than 3 minutes. What a deal. No cleanup even with a chunk of cheddar! ...

  3. I worried that I'd stick this back in the closet next to the smoothie maker and the bread machine. But it sits on our counter and is used nearly every day. The teenagers love it because they can whip up two sandwiches at a time and wolf them down while they cook two more. And the sandwiches cook quickly. Red light means cooking, green light means done. No guesswork! The hardest part about it is getting the kids to stop using up all the bread in one day.
    Worth every penny.

  4. For the price you'll get a solid sandwich grill that looks good too. Unlike others in the same price range, it doesn't look "plastic-y". Serves my need at a bargain price. Plus I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me too.

  5. Grilled cheese sandwiches are a favorite at our house, which was the reason for this purchase - little did we know its many uses! First of all, the grilled cheese sandwishes are the best (as are the mozarella and tomato). By the best I mean quick fix and easy clean up. As for versatility, we can also use the grill for omelettes or waffles. I shudder to repeat what concoctions teenagers come up with - but, the grill withstands all and cleans in a breeze despite what I'd consider to be the stickiest ingredients imaginable.

  6. This really is a surprisingly funky little gadget that is getting a lot more use than I thought it would get when I ordered it on an impulse on a Friday sale. I agree with all the five star reviewers, not to repeat anything, but to give it another vote of confidence - if you enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches, you really can't go wrong with this little gadget. (For a fancy treat, try a sandwhich with bakery crafted hard crusted Italian bread and havarti-dill cheese - yumm!)

  7. This little appliance makes a perfect grilled cheese in less time and with less mess than using a skillet. Plus, it makes omelettes, french toast and more. Great buy for a terrific and compact little machine.
