Amusing private investigator tale

Read First Before Buy Five Star First Edition Mystery

Five Star First Edition Mystery

In Indianapolis, several years ago Albert Samson lost his private investigative license, but his attorney gets him reinstated; within a few hours, he has two clients. Schoolyard basketball guru Joe Ellison asks Albert to look gratis into vandalism at a nearby African-American church. Attorney Christopher Holloway hires him for an exorbitant fee to help his law firm in their defense of Ronnie Williger, suspected rapist and serial killer. Albert also wants to know what is bothering his childhood buddy Captain Jerry Miller, who arrested Ronnie and cost Albert his sleuthing license. Finally his adult daughter Sam wants him to find her missing mother.

His cases are not straight forward. A stakeout by an unknown person near the church stops a dangerous inferno from occurring. Williger defense team lead attorney Karl Benton expects Albert to find dirt on Jerry so that they can paint a motive of a bad cop needing money framing their client while sharing a finder's fee with a crony. As Albert accompanied at times by neon sign maker Mary investigates, the cases intersect with a killer targeting the sleuth and his family members and new girlfriend.

Readers will appreciate this amusing private investigator tale starring a fabulous fallen sleuth getting a second chance encouraged by the female breads that surround him as the sandwich generation. Sam and Albert's mom are terrific as they will do anything to help their champion back on his feet. Quite contrary Mary brings humor and intelligence with questions and comments that shake Albert to the core. The investigations are cleverly designed as Albert traverses the mean streets of Indianapolis in what will be an EYE OPENER for anyone who has not read Michael Z. Lewin before.

A revelation

Best Review on Breville SG820XL Maxi Panini Press

Breville SG820XL Maxi Panini Press

Just to echo the review by another former chef several reviews down, this is a great device. It really does work as well as the units I've used in restaurants while costing about $1000 less. After using mine for a week, I bought one for a Christmas present and it too is getting a lot of use. The flat cooking surface is great for eggs and chicken, but I have found the depth of the plates to be too shallow for greasier foods like burgers or steak. But as you might guess, the unit really excells at sandwiches. It far outperforms my old GF grill and another sandwich press I tried. Produces beautifully toasted sandwiches. My first unit arrived with a broken handle even though box showed no sign of damage. Amazon shipped one out for next day delivery instantly. Great service.

Cute and a new Sunday Morning Tradition

Best Review on Hello Kitty Waffle Maker Iron

Hello Kitty Waffle Maker Iron

As a gluten free bread fan I struggle to find ways of making food taste like it did when I was growing up. The problem- gluten free batter doesn't always behave the way wheat flour does and most cooking implements were product tested with wheat flour batter. This little kitty worked like a charm. I've found that when I make bready foods the smaller the portion, the better the chance it will cook throughly and taste the way I like (slightly crunchy/burnt other may call it). I'm going to try it with different flour batters and update. The waffles it makes are small, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches wide, so no you can't feed an army quickly. You can feed somewhat patient people a fun sunday meal. Also, the waffles should be place kitty face up (otherwise they can get soggy from the humidity), but they stored great in the fridge and were crunchy when I heated them up the next day.

Cheever's Big Ticket

Best Review on Selling Ben Cheever Service Economy

Selling Ben Cheever Service Economy

I have the impression that "Selling Ben Cheever" was pitched as being timely, for it was written in the mid-1990's when downsizing lead to massive layoffs of white-collar workers. "... That's the American dream, then: half nightmare. The song: `America the beautiful'. The game: musical chairs. The tempo has never been so frantic."

Cheever's working title was "Square One," a perfect title given the subsequent travails of some of those downsized. Since most Americans are largely defined by their work, when one of us is knocked off his pedestal - particularly one of the taller models adopted by the management- and executive-class - the victim is both stunned and set adrift. Those who are over 45 are often unable to regain their lofty perches and instead must indeed start over.

In his late forties, Cheever decided he was one of these victims. He claims his lifetime output of three not-very-successful novels qualify him as a bust, at least as a writer; plus he was laid off from a high-paying executive position at Reader's Digest. While his fall is cushioned by having a successful spouse (and probably royalties from his father's books), the pain is nonetheless real. "Work is about identity almost as much as it's about cash. People without jobs are people without status. The unemployment rate is universally accepted as a misery quotient."

So Ben Cheever becomes the George Plimpton of the middle-aged unemployed white collar worker. He takes a variety of jobs: security guard, sandwich maker, and salesman. Most of the book is really a collection of insights into life on the "other side of the counter," a behind-the-scenes peek into the world of those working for the minimum wage or on commission. My favorite chapters were about when he worked at CompUSA and then as a car salesman, for they illuminate the darker areas of businesses we all must venture into as customers.

In fact, far from being a depressing story relevant only to a demographic not even TV cares about, "Selling Ben Cheever" is highly entertaining and brimming with insights valuable to readers of all ages and economic status.

It's also exhibits some inspired writing. The fruit has not fallen far from the tree.

Breadman TR2200C Ultimate Bread Machine

I did alot of research and read alot of reviews before I finally settled on the Breadman Ultimate TR2200C, my first bread machine. I have not regretted choosing this machine for a second. Shortly after taking the machine out of the box, I made a loaf of bread from a grocery store boxed mix to make sure the machine would work. It turned out very nicely. As my second venture into breadland, I chose a scratch recipe on the back of a bag of White Lily bread flour. Their honey oatmeal bread turned out scrumptious! After such great, immediate successes with the machine, I now have the confidence to try ANY bread recipe. I admit, I am a "stirrer," and I watched the kneading process closely because I have read complaints that the machine left dry flour in the corners of the pan. I found myself scraping flour from the corners to nudge it into the main dough ball. But after watching the process some more, I believe that if I'd left it alone, the corner flour would have eventually worked into the main dough anyway because the dough "walks" around the entire sides of the pans, including the corners. So far, I don't have one single complaint about this machine. It is SO easy to use....could NOT be easier to use! And clean-up is a snap. At the most, you might need to soak the bottom of the pan with warm water for a couple of minutes to loosen the paddle from where the bread has cooked around it, then swish it out with a little soapy water, rinse, dry and you're done! On my first loaf, the paddle stuck in the middle of the bread when I removed the loaf from the pan. On my second loaf, I gave the paddle a quick squirt of Pam cooking spray before adding the ingredients, and the paddle stayed in the pan, not the loaf of bread. Either way, this is not bothersome to me. I'm looking forward to using the advanced features of the machine, and would not hesitate recommending this bread machine to anyone....newby or experienced! I don't know why I didn't buy one of these sooner!!!

A very cool shopping guide!

Read First Before Buy This That Supermarket Survival Guide

This That Supermarket Survival Guide

The introduction places this delightful work in context (Page vii): "It can be a place of wonder and excitement. . . . But it can also be a place of great danger, where marketing ploys, and outright lies can rob you of your fitness, your health, your vitality. . . . I'm talking, of course, about the American supermarket."

To summarize: This is a book that helps readers shop smarter. It notes for different classes of food (from candy to snacks to cereals and on and on) the ones that are most and least damaging, in terms of calories, fat, and sodium. A brief one line analysis generally accompanies each set of data on each product.

Examples of this part of the book. For instance, pages 176-177 feature corn chips. The conclusion, if one chooses to get some corn chips, is to purchase and eat products like Snyder's of Hanover Multigrain (130 calories, 5 grams of fat [0 grams of saturated fat], 110 milligrams of sodium) and not those like Frito's Original Corn Chips (160 calories, 10 grams of fat [1.5 grams of saturated fat], and 160 mg of sodium). Or take frozen pizzas, if you must. Think in terms of buying Palermo's Primo Thin Margherita (260 calories, 12 grams of fat [5 grams of which is saturated], and 520 mg of sodium)--not DiGiorno's Traditional Crust Pepperoni (770 calories, 35 grams of fat [14 grams saturated], and 1430 mg of sodium). Some of the comparisons as those above are quite stunning, and suggest that doing some decision-making at the store can have nutritional consequences.

Some interesting features--Survival guide for supermarket tips (pages 2-9), including a depressing check of stated calories per serving on the package and what the book says are the real calories per serving. the 20 worst packaged foods for a person in the country (e.g., Haagen-Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream; the book suggests purchasing Edy's slow churned peanut butter cup ice cream instead), tips on which produce to purchase for nutritional kick, "making sense of meat," tips on snacking, and so on.

But, in the final analysis, it is the tips on which are the best and which the worst, in terms of nutrition, products in a variety of food categories. This book provides a nice service along those lines. I had thought that this would not be particularly useful when I ordered it (one look at the wild and wacky cover illustrates one reason for my pessimism), but I am happy to say that my doubts were not realized.

I received this bread machine as a birthday present. I am a long-time bread maker, and considered myself a "purist," i.e., I did it all by hand. But my life is busy, and I realized I had not made homemade bread in years. This machine has gotten a lot of use, at least once per week. I have used it a lot to make various sourdough breads, and I even re-created my mother's oat bread recipe for a bread machine--excellent. I highly recommend this product. A few tips: make sure the pan is seated well in the machine. Use the "light" crust setting. And I make almost all whole grain breads, but found that the whole grain setting did not work nearly as well as setting #1 for white bread. I use the white bread setting all the time now, never the whole wheat setting.

Best Review on Arrowhead Mills Vital Gluten 10 Ounce

Arrowhead Mills Vital Gluten 10 Ounce

An excellent product that does exactly what it's supposed to do: it makes light, fluffy, chewy bread. I'm very happy with the product.

A note, however, if you have any questions about Arrowhead Mills' products, don't bother emailing. I went back and forth with their customer service department trying to get some info on this (regarding allergens and labeling) before I bought it. It was like pulling teeth. And the info I received ended up being wrong. It was inconsistent with the labeling I saw on the Arrowhead Mills flours I saw at the grocery store. So I ended up calling.

The woman who worked the customer service phones was very helpful, friendly and gave me accurate information. I'm glad I called. This vital wheat gluten is great.

Just don't waste your time emailing them.

(And the gluten is labeled as having wheat as the only allergen, with no cross contamination issues, for those who need to know that.)

grilling

Read First Before Buy Cuisinart GR 2 Griddler Express Contact

Cuisinart GR 2 Griddler Express Contact

This is an excellent grill for the price. I have had a George Foreman grill for several months before getting this one. My GF was a fixed temperature without an on/off switch, so that's my previous electric grill experience. I have also owned, and hated, sandwich grillers, none of which work as advertised. I live in an apartment so neither a charcoal nor propane grill were an option.

The pros: A switch with variable settings so you don't have to plug and unplug it for use; the high setting is much higher than the GF and is great because I like my steak rare with a charred exterior and this comes as close to a barbeque as anything I've used; the swing away top is easier for cleaning than the early GF; the fact that the griddle sits flat instead of a slope is a huge plus as often times on the GF the meat would slide down and/or off the edge; the quick warm up, even on the high setting; the even heat distribution on the grill.

The cons: My favorite grilled sandwich is toasted cheese with nothing else but bread and cheese. The grill flattened the sandwich too much for my taste and the bread was limp instead of crispy. I didn't buy it for sandwiches because I'm on high protein because of diabetes, so that isn't an issue for me. With ground beef the top tends to push down on one side causing it to cook a little unevenly.

Regarding the cleaning. I learned from an Internet search how to clean the GF and it works just as well for this one. I use nothing but a damp wash rag and clean it when it's warm, the hotter the better. I waited until I'd cooked some extra lean beef patties before I wrote this review, and the grill cleaned up easily after all the drippings from those guys. It only takes a couple of minutes and I actually clean it right after my last piece of meat or ground beef when it's good and hot.

Someone knocked off a star because it isn't restaurant quality. Yet for the minor cons I cite above I just have to give this 5 stars because the Costco price is only $40. You can't expect restaurant quality at that price and besides, it's a darn good grill.

The George Foreman grill is one of those items you see it yard sales per $10-$15 used maybe once. It's one of those items that people think is a hoax-a hack, but amazingly it's one of those items that works. The fact that you can get a brand new one for $15 is amazing. Sometimes you can even get a brand new one on Amazon for 10 that's crazy go nuts!

It is my recommendation by one of these grills and make grilled cheese. It's amazing, done in less than seven minutes, or try a frozen chicken breast from frozen to juicy and done in less than 10 minutes. Perfect for bachelors or moms with bachelors in training or moms married to bachelors. You get the point.

So give it a shot perfect in what it does. I liked it so much upgrade to a larger size (know I didn't buy the company), and I use it everyday.

Read First Before Buy Essence Chocolate Recipes Baking Cooking

Essence Chocolate Recipes Baking Cooking

`The Essence of Chocolate' by Scharffen Berger Chocolate founders, John Scharffenberger and Robert Steinberg is a `culinary memoir duet' where the principal authors take the roles more of `Executive Producer' than true writer or even editor. Most of the recipe writing chores are assumed by a fairly large stable of well-known chocolatier practitioners such as Alice Medrich and David Lebovitz plus a number of other culinary luminaries such as Rose Levy Beranbaum, Michael Chiraello, Michael Richard, Jacques Pepin, Thomas Keller, and Rick Bayless. Most of the yeoman's work on the book appears to have been done by Suzie Heller (a collaborator with Jacques Pepin and Thomas Keller), the recipe tester and (I suspect) editor, Ann Krueger Spivack (a collaborator with Cat Cora and Michael Chiarello), and `Bouchon' photographer, Deborah Jones.

Scharffenberger and Steinberg are former vintner physician respectively, who joined up in the early 1990s to create what has become the only native American producer of very high end chocolate. Scharffenberger contributed a knowledge of the food business and Steinberg primarily contributed the scientific background which enabled these two chocolatier newbies to make a go of it in a small space with a small budget and with practically no experience in the chocolate business. Their most substantial contributions to this book are memoirs on how they got together and got into this business, plus essays on the future of cacao agriculture in the primary cacao sources in Central America.

I was just a bit surprised that the more technical culinary content of this book is as light as it is. There is discussion of the more difficult subjects such as tempering chocolate, but other books, such as Alice Medrich's excellent `Bittersweet' book on chocolate is actually a better source of both understanding and technique for the really serious chocolate baker.

What this book provides is a great collection of recipes specifically designed to work with the kind of high end chocolate you can get from Scharffen Berger and the big European sources such as Vahlrona. Even better is the fact that the book doesn't go off on a tangent and deal only with fancy recipes. Rather, it provides a great source for a wide range of sentimental favorites based on really relatively easy recipes. The book includes great recipes for a simple chocolate cake, S'mores, fudge, egg cream, brownies, chocolate ice cream, chocolate mousse, and the humble chocolate syrup. What's better, these recipes are divided up in a rather unique manner, in three (3) great chapters covering, intense, basic, and `hint' levels of chocolate. Samples of the `intense' recipes are fudge, brownies, and truffles. Samples of the `basic' recipes are S'mores, egg creams, and biscotti. Samples of the `hint of chocolate' are gingerbread, white velvet cake with chocolate icing, and chocolate chunk muffins.

In fact, the authors make a point to say that when you are dealing with really good chocolate, you don't want to muck things up with a lot of ingredients and thereby detract from the virtues of the complex chocolate flavor. This is quite understandable, in that chocolate is easily one of the most complex `raw' ingredients. I suspect it is even more complex than most wines and very old balsamic vinegar.

I invariably give a good rating to books that come up with at least one surprising and surprisingly good idea. The `signature' idea in this book is the pairing of fine chocolate with single malt scotch, taken together. This notion is so good, I'm surprised the authors didn't give a recipe to pair the two, as with a scotch filled bon-bon. I guess they left that to the imagination of the reader.

All the little things I like about culinary books are on the mark here. The book begins with an excellent table of contents, including an entry for every recipe. The price is `standard' at $35 list, for a culinary book. And, the book includes not one but two bibliographies, which are just one more way of showing that the book is as much about the economics and `culture' of chocolate as the recipes. I'm just a bit surprised that the book contains no history of chocolate, but then, several other good books, especially the chocolate book from David Lebovitz already covers this territory.

This is not an `essential' book for all foodies, unless you happen to be a chocaholic and like to bake with chocolate often. This will give you more than enough reasons to do this even more!

Best Review on Applica 4 Slice Panini Maker

Applica 4 Slice Panini Maker

I was iffy about buying this since the seller has such vague information about the product, not even listing the model number. I foolishly bought the product based on the description in the first review.

I really shouldn't have taken that chance, but it turned out to be a correct guess. The model that the first review details is exactly the one that you receive. This is indeed a Breadman. Great panini maker for the price, if you want the best one out there that is under $70 this is it. Not many of the cheap ones (or even expensive ones) have a temperature control setting like this one has, the option to grill sandwiches or meats, and a fully adjustable hinge, not some tier system like I noticed the cuisinart griddler has when I went to a store to see it in person. I've noticed all panini makers have it so that you only can turn it off by unplugging it, an added safety measure I'm sure. It has a sleek design, and it is incredibly easy to wipe off. I made a sandwich in which the cheese oozed out onto the griddle, I freaked out because it is a non-submersible product and immediately grabbed a dry paper towel to "attempt" at cleaning it. Well, that paper towel fully cleaned the grid in one swipe. I was taken aback.

I honestly though this would be one of those things you buy and use once and it sits in your pantry, but I find I use it a few times a week. If you eat sandwiches a lot, then this is for you. Normally a veggie burger on plain white bread is a so-so meal, now I look forward to it. With some melted swiss on grilled bread even my fiance likes them!

Attack Killer Tomatoes Anniversary Edition

Now let's see, "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!" is a low-budget horror musical comedy(yes I know about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"). The first film in the quadrillogy (or series) soon to be five movies with the remake! Now the DVD (25th Anniversary) you should stay away from this DVD version (I hear the Collectors Edition is MUCH better). Now that we got that out of the way lets start off with the movie. "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!" was a dime budget made to be bad movie about vegetables (fruit whatever you want to call them) that go bad. It starts off with a small murder with... (wait for it) TOMATO JUICE involved. Soon it spreads into the fields and then, the country! Mason Dixon the lowest ranking FBI Agent the Govornment has is being sent in to solve the Killer Tomato case. But soon enough panic sweeps the nation, the Tomato effects are laughable but if you sit back and check your brain at the door then you will absolutely LOVE this flick. But if you expect a serious movie with a good budget then look elsewhere. But if you are a cheese hound like me then you will love this movie and the other three!

The bread comes out of the pan with ease. A loaf of bread in about 45 minutes, what more can you ask. The little loaves make a great little gift. The clean up is very easy. It doesn't make dough, there are two choices of bread types--basic or wheat and on or off, so it is fairly simple. The basic recipe uses just 1 1/3 cups of bread flour. When using wheat or rye flours, you will only be using 1/3 of a cup. The price is right. A great

Heat Adventures Pasta Maker Apprentice Dante Quoting

I have to say, it is rare that a non-reference/instruction book actually teaches its readers skills, facts, and useful practices. Heat is both enjoyable and, I can honestly say, highly practical. As I read about Buford's highly entertaining apprenticeships, I also learned how to make specific kinds of pasta, prepare a really great pasta dough, how to prepare several meals, and many other fascinating classical Italian methods of food preparation. It doesn't hurt that, in profiling Batali and his mentors (notably Marco Pierre White), Buford finds highly unique individuals and careers from which to draw interesting anecdotes. The only downside (and even this isn't much of a bother) is Buford's lack of objectivity when it comes to Batali. Buford clearly is infatuated with Batali and his cooking, but we, as readers, learn little about the man's flaws or unfiltered reactions. I feel as if I came away with a wonderful understanding of Buford as a person, but still know little about Batali.

Soyapower Largest Capacity 2 year Warranty

I read through many online articles, reviews, and discussion forums and was convinced that the SoyaPower Plus is the right choice for me. I was ready to buy it directly from [...] when I found that it was listed at Amazon for a lower price. Average Person's review confirmed most of the "Positives" that I had read from other websites.

I have used the machine about a dozen times by now. It makes great soymilk! I really like the milks made with soybean and rice or oats. I followed the instruction on the user manual - use 3/4 cup of dry soybean and 1/4 cup of rice, soaked overnight; add water, drop the soaked soybean and rice into the machine pitcher, plug in the power, and press the "Soy + " button. It is that simple! I have tried three of the five recipes on the user manual, and got great soy milk every time!

The cleanup is fast and easy! That is the important thing to me because many reviews of other machines complained about difficulty of cleaning. So this is the big PLUS!

The plastic liner on the stainless pitcher does reduce the noise. The machine makes much less noise than a typical blender. The plastic cover is still warm to the touch but not hot enough to hurt. I can image that without the plastic liner, the stainless steel pitcher would be very hot with boiling soymilk inside.

I can confirm most of the positives "average person" listed in his review: filter-less for easy cleaning, the four functional settings for making different type of milks, the insulation liner for heat and noise reduction, the head and body clamps for safety, the foldable handle, and the preheating non-beany feature.

As for the Cons, I don't see many. The off-white color looks better to me than the white color. The fit of the plastics was the one I was most concerned after reading the reviews, but it is actually much better than I expected. I don't see any gaps on the machine head. There is a seam between the plastic outliner pieces, but that is no issue to me because I don't see what it can go wrong with it. I don't expect the finish of a Japanese piano anyway! The stainless pitcher with plastic outliner feels very sturdy and strong.

Overall, I am very happy with it. It is so simple to use, almost foolproof! I give it a five star!!

Read This if yours only makes ice cream "soup"

Read First Before Buy Cuisinart ICE 20 Automatic 2 Quart Cream

Cuisinart ICE 20 Automatic 2 Quart Cream

After several failed attempts, I began to wonder if I would ever be able to make creamy dreamy ice cream at home. Finally, I ordered the right one! This ice cream maker really does work. The only time it will not work is if your freezer is not set to the coldest setting. I keep the freezer bowls in the freezer at all times, that way they are ready to go.

So, set your freezer to the coldest setting two days before you intend to make the ice cream. I also found the extra freezer bowl to be indispensable. Instead of waiting for the ice cream mixture to cool, simply use one of the freezer bowls to cool it down and then pour it into the second freezer bowl. This drastically speeds up the process.

I also use the freezer bowl for other items I want to cool down quickly. I use it to cool down Jello when making a Raspberry Mousse. I have been known to place the whole contraption right into the freezer. I guess you are not supposed to, but I am still alive.

So, once you have everything all frozen, set the machine up and make sure it is on a nice level surface (in or out of the freezer). Then, mix up your ice cream recipe. All you do is pour the liquid into the ice cream maker and with a flick of the switch the paddle starts to turn and in about 20 to 30 minutes you will have the ice cream of your dreams.

When washing out the bowl, you will notice that you have to use hot water or you may find the cold water starts to freeze on the inside. I recommend placing a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the bowl when storing it in the freezer so there is no need to rince the bowl. I also disobey the instructions and let the ice cream freeze until solid in the ice cream freezer bowl. I found it just works faster that way. That way your ice cream is ready in 40 minutes! Yes, it takes 20-30 minutes and then 10 more minutes in the freezer. At least that is how it goes in my kitchen. It is still well worth the wait. If you start the ice cream before dinner, you won't even notice the time.

Here is a favorite recipe for a slushy. Yes, you can make those too and it works quite well.

PINK GRAPEFRUIT SLUSH

Use grapefruit juice found in the cooler section of your grocery store or use fresh squeezed and strained juice. If you enjoy sitting outside and want to keep your drinks ice cold, purchase a few "gel mugs" which you can keep in the freezer.

4 cups pink grapefruit juice

1/4 cup orange blossom honey

1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Pour grapefruit juice into a tall jug. Heat honey in the microwave and stir into juice.

2. Set up ice cream maker. Pour in juice, freeze 10 minutes or until slushy. Serve in tall glasses with straws.

Makes 4 glasses

Cooking is easy and tasty with George!

George Foreman GR26CB Family Cookbook

I wish I could give the George Foreman grill 50 stars....... I originally got this as a gift from my mother. I'm an entertainer and am on the road a lot, but she knew that when I was here I cooked for myself, my grown foster son and his two kids.

What a great gift! This is one product that EXCEEDS the promises made by its advertising. There are a couple of reasons why you should order this grill immediately...and realize this is coming from someone who is NOT a professional cook (in fact, I'm a professional ventriloquist...and I'm not kidding...check my reviewer's profile):

1)COOKING EASE: All you do is lift up the top, plop the food on it, and the cooking is underway.
2)EVEN COOKING: The top and bottom of this grill are heated so it cooks evenly.
3)RAPID COOKING: Anything you cook on it will cook a lot faster since you have the upper and bottom grills cooking it. Your cooking time in some instances is half what it would be on another device.
4)LOW FAT: George Foreman was not exaggerating. YOu can see the fat, excess marinade, etc. drain out.
5)FOOD QUALITY: Everything tastes better on the grill.

I've used this grill to cook grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, veggieburgers, steaks, etc. Chicken comes out sublime. You can slit a hotdog or sausage in half and it grills beautifully. So do vegetables.

I also now like two things I never liked before due to the grill. On the advice of a local health food store, I cooked fish marinated in a fresh Italian dressing on it. I don't like fish..and this was GREAT! I also marinated boneless pork chops (also not my favorite) in Italian dressing and used it on the grill. In both instances the grill cooked the fish/meat evenly, quickly, and excess marinate was grilled off so I had truly juicy, quickly made, absolutely delicious food.

This is the BEST investment you can make for a modern-day kitchen. It's so easy you can teach older kids (fifth, sixth grade) to cook on it. Again, this is even better than it's advertising says it is. A MUST to own and great to gift (I can attest to both of these claims!).

Good deal, tasty sandwiches, September 26, 2003

By A Customer

I was skeptical of this product because some of the other reviewers said that it was messy and too small to hold many bread slices. I've found that it will easily work with a normal slice of bread, and with fancier loaves you can just trim to the right size. It does occasionally drip grease from the cheese if you overstuff your sandwich and it is difficult to clean because the plates don't come off. I don't find these problems to be too objectionable because I only paid $19.95 for the thing. I use it all the time---since we often work late it's nice to fix a quick, healthy meal in only a few minutes, and with a minimum of clean-up.

Toasty, gourmet sandwiches

Read First Before Buy Salton Breadman%C2%AE TR456 Panini Grill

Salton Breadman%C2%AE TR456 Panini Grill

The Breadman panini maker is a much-used appliance in my kitchen. Unlike most other counter grills, it has a hinged top that adjusts to the size of the bread so it doesn't force the fillings out on one side. The nonstick surface makes cleaning relatively easy, although you need to run a damp paper towel between the grooves if you use butter. Sandwiches are crispy brown in about four minutes after placing them on the preheated grill. The grilling surface measures ten inches by twelve, enough room for four regular size sandwiches or two to three large ones. I have not tried to grill anything but panini, but I see no reason why it could not be used for other indoor grilling recipes.

Be creative with your combinations. Try maple honey turkey, smoked gouda, and chipotle mayonnaise on an Italian roll. Grilled vegetables and Boursin on focaccia. Pepperoni, provolone, ham, turkey, and tomato on slices of Italian bread. Buy or make fresh wholegrain loaves and slice them thickly, and fill. You will be limited only by your imagination and your tastes. For best results, the bread needs to be thick. Butter or olive oil helps with even browning, although you don't need to use either if you are watching fat intake.

This panini maker is not perfect. The lights are hard to see, and the only way to turn it on or off is to unplug it. But this is a sturdy grill that does its job well. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to bring a little pizzazz to soup and sandwich night.

Perfect size, Perfect look, Perfect Grill

Best Review on Cuisinart GR 3 Griddler Nonstick Countertop

Cuisinart GR 3 Griddler Nonstick Countertop

I finally found the perfect grilling appliance and to make it even sweeter it serves as a panini press too. The adjustable heat allows you to grill your food perfectly with the desired amount of grill marks. Others have complained that grease drips out on to the counter and not onto the cups but I have found this not to be true yet. Perhaps the cuts I use are leaner which is why I also grill my meats to rid food of extra fat. Clean up is a breeze. The removable grill pans are very easy to clean in the sink or if you wish in the dishwasher. It's the perfect size for cooking for one or two people, it's compact and does not take any counter real estate, looks great with the rest of my stainless steel appliances. I love the fact that it adjusts to the thickness of your meats and paninis. I have made some delicious paninis in it which brings in the versatility of this little appliance. I use it every day. I highly recommend it.

A must for any kitchen

Best Review on George Foreman GR10ABWI Warmer Indigo

George Foreman GR10ABWI Warmer Indigo

This is an absolutely fantastic product. It has totally revolutionized how I cook. I make everything from sandwiches to fajitas on this. It cooks vegetables, meat, you name it.

Not only does it reduce fat and grease, it cooks well. Really well. Cooking times are shortened. Meat comes out great. Not dried out at all. Even if it weren't for the obvious health benefits, I would use this. It cleans up really well. A damp rag is all that is needed. Junk comes off really quickly. This model has a slightly larger surface area than the original model. I would echo the other reviewer. If you are cooking for more than 2, get a larger size.

It comes down to this: no one and I mean NO ONE who has this doesn't like this product. This is a great product for those who don't have time to cook, those who love cooking, and everyone in between. You'll eat healthier, well, and you'll have a lot of fun cooking. Now go buy one.

Worth the expense: A Breville 800GRXL Die-Cast Indoor Barbeque and Grill Review

Best Review on Breville XX800GRXL Factory Reconditioned Die Cast Stainless

Breville XX800GRXL Factory Reconditioned Die Cast Stainless

This thing is amazing. Ive had it for about 3 months now. It is indeed big but for me that is a huge plus. You could easily cook 4-6 paninis at once. I havent cooked any meats on it yet but I did cook pizza on it. Once i cooked the pizza on it I knew that it was one of my favorite toys. I opened it up all the way so it was flat and cooked the pizza on the grill. This is also perfect for breakfast. Open it up flat and cook bacon and pancakes.

As for your possible concerns. It goes to 450 so even if whatever its made out of is dangerous at 500 it will never get there. The plates are also not removable which is kind of a bummer but in the end...it doesnt matter because in the end you would still have to clean within the grooves. Its not really that bad. The worst is cheese and its not much of a problem.

Overall...I would suggest this product over anything...panini maker...indoor george foreman...anything. With the price, you cant get anything that's comparable. Its also much sturdier than the cuisinart.

The funniest season!!!

Read First Before Buy Friends The Complete Fifth Season

Friends The Complete Fifth Season

Even though Season 5 is not my favorite season, Season 5 will always be special because it has my all time favorite episode of the series which is: TOW Everyone Finds Out. This is possibly the best episode of the series ever. Lisa Kudrow was just pure genius, she was perfection from start to finish, this is just the most laugh out loud episode of the series..

Other standouts episode are The One Hundredth (another great Lisa Kudrow episode, hilarious and moving), TOW the Kissing (Perry and Cox were great in here, not to mention that Aniston was moving here), TOW All the Thanskgiving, TOW the Cop (another great episode for Kudrow, but the real standout here is Schwimmer I swear the word PIVOT!!! will never be the same after you see this epsiode), TOW the Resolutions, and TO in Vegas

MVP here is without a doubt Lisa Kudrow. With episodes like The One Hundredth and TOW Everyone Finds Out, she gave 2 of her best performances in the series. This season is also notable for the official start of the Monica and Chandler's romance thus producing classic episodes like Tow Ross' Sandwich and TO in Vegas. This is also the debut of mental Gellar. The return of the Ross that we've come to know in the past season will only return in Season 8.

Grade: A-

Life Saver

Best Review on Black Decker JW200 Opener White

Black Decker JW200 Opener White

I live with 2 women and a baby.

One of the women was born with one hand and has considerable trouble opening jars.

The other woman is almost 60 and the baby is about 2.

I also have problems opening jars, because of my occupation, with my hands losing strength more and more as I grow older.

This thing really helped us out, especially with all the jars of babyfood we have had to open.

I don't see much of a limitation of jar size with what we buy, the thing will open pretty tall jars and does even the little babyfood jars no problem. (we don't buy many pickles or giant jars of mayo)

I am not sure I'd say it is the greatest thing since sliced bread but it seems very durable and easy to use.

It is a little awkward at first but once you figure out how to get the base adjustment to work right there's nothing to it.

Also there are 2 little black pads that they put on but they keep sliding off, just throw them away, it works fine without them. Maybe they changed that by now.

Anyway, we love this thing. I hope you will too.

From Willie Smith who grew up on a Mississippi plantation, to Willie York who lives in the streets of Peoria...from Joe Hott, a mortician that works both sides of the street, to Joe Slyman, a sandwich-maker that won't treat you like just another turkey sandwich...this book is a living collection of voices from the Heart of Illinois.
