Read First Before Buy Proctor Silex 25401 Sandwich Maker
The only simpler design would be a frying pan on the stovetop - this is amazingly effective. The double-sided griddle makes it much faster than a skillet could ever hope for. The best part is the flat, undivided surface. I hate those sandwich makers with triangle divisions that ruin 1/4 of the bread by compression.
Of course the ubiquitous grilled cheese sandwich is what this machine excels at but it's also perfection on any grilled sandwich; Reuben, Cuban, Tuna-melt, what-have-you. Further, anything that you'd fry in a skillet for a few minutes then flip and fry the other side will cook in half the time on this. Bacon, sausage, eggs, ham, pork chops, chicken breast, French toast... peppers/onion/steak... It does a solid job on a filled tortilla that's been folded in half too. and, my favorite, Monte Cristo variations:
Beat 1 egg into a shallow bowl. Assemble a ham and cheese sandwich using your favorite combination of ham, cheese, and bread. Dip the assembled sandwich in the egg and fry in the preheated PS Sandwich Toaster for 3 minutes. mmmmm
Overall a 6 out of 5 for what it's designed to do and a 5 out of 5 for lots of other things.
Almost best part, after eating the great food; it's very easy to clean and stores upright next to the toaster perfectly.
I'm thrilled with the Procter-Silex Sandwich Maker because its a dual-function cooker. I have baked mini batches of brownies and flaky turnovers in the unit. Boneless chicken breasts cook to perfection straight from the freezer. This is ideal for college students, couples, or those who live alone. The unit doesn't take up much space, cleans easily, and can cook your main course meal and dessert. You can throw away your space-gobbling George Foreman Grill, the cupcake machine and your pie maker. This was the only sandwich maker I found on Amazon that had a rectangular smooth grilling surface. The others devices had ridges and divided grill plates that defeated my goal of having one machine that could multi-task and do it well! Thank you Proctor-Silex for making a fabulous product.

I had been looking a long time for a basic sandwich maker without grids. Everything was so expensive. This works great and easy to clean. I have tuna melts and other sandwiches. I even put in thick French toast. All turned out great.
BalasHapusThough you can really only make one sandwitch on it, it is a fantastic sandwich maker. It's fast and easy!
BalasHapusMy husband has always found the production of grilled cheese sandwiches to be an esoteric art. But he loves them. He is beyond pleased with this sandwich maker. I thought I had perhaps made a mistake in replacing myself, but he is still awed by my different recipe change ups. I am also a fan and find the clean up easy. I don't like a lot of fiddling, so this product is a perfect fit.
BalasHapusIt gives your bread a nicely toast bread and crunchy corners. Easy to use and to clean. Its durable too! Great for the kids to use. My son loves grilled cheese. I bought one of these and he can make them himself.
BalasHapusI am a big fan of grilled cheese sandwiches; however, I hate the regular grills that come with a partition, so this one is perfect for me.

BalasHapusLove this thing makes great hot sandwiches in a jiffy. Was looking for one with a flat grill, as I had one before with ridges and the sandwich would get stuck to it. this one works great toast everything nice and no sticking.
BalasHapusNo more messy frying pans to make my ham and cheese grilled sandwiches. It is first and a excellent sandwich maker, but it can be used for other things, like frying bacon, warming sausage paddies, grilling hot dogs and making toast. Simple to use, plug in, when the second light turns green, put in what your cooking close the lid and in two to three minutes, your finished. Not only is it fast, hot and small, the best thing is clean up. Wipe it down with a paper towel and let it cool and put it away. I have been using it almost daily, fix my English muffin in the morning and make sandwiches for lunch, and sometimes I use it for fixing a evening meal. For the price, it just can't be beat, I compare it to my microwave as the two items all kitchens need. On a scale of one to ten, it is a 20.
