West Bend 6112 Panini Sandwich

Firstly let me tell you why all the others suck : I had a fancy Cuisinart for 2 months with the removable heating plates and ended up throwing it way. They are made into "sandwhich shapes" for whatever reason and are supposedly dishwasher safe - NONSENSE . The problem here is that they are impossible to clean. I think the "crinkle cut" ones are also going to be super hard to keep clean. Everything sticks to them - so you have to be very aggressive when you remove your sandwich especially since everything is unbelievably hot and you have starving kids plucking at you. FRUSTRATING.

The West Bend on the other hand is flat. Just use a spatula and the sandwhich pops off. No need to use butter or Pam. Wait for it to cool and then wipe with a damp paper towel. I think the big thing is to not scratch the non stick surface - and the fact that this one is flat makes a big difference. It also has plenty of heat to warm everything up all the way through without having to burn the bread. No temp controls - really don't miss them. There is an indicator to tell you when the press is at temperature. All you need.

Very nice product - very nice price. I was prepared to spend up to $300 and I just got this. Very very happy! If all you want is a really good (small - or should that be compact ) toasted sandwich maker (2 max ) - stop here and just buy it.

Yes it won't do nice grill marks on chicken or on your sandwiches - but who cares.

It also has ridges all round the bottom - so the fat/chess etc doesn't run out and onto the counter - most of the others just let it ooze out the front .. (if you are lucky )

  1. This is without a doubt one of the best purchases i've made on here. With how little I spent for the sandwich maker it sees action every morning since I received it. It's a far better choice than those overpriced models from bigger name companies.

  2. It adjusts to the size of sandwich, whether you want a big sub or grilled cheese!

  3. I love this press. I can make cuban sandwiches, paninis, toast, and anything else I can think of in no time. The inside is coated (easy to clean), and flat (if you like not having grooves that mark the bread). The price was incomparable. Definitely recommended.

  4. I've been looking for a sandwich press for years that didn't have grill ridges. I wanted a flat "press." That's what this product is and it's a misnomer to label it a Panini Press, which creates the expectation that you'll get nice grill marks on your bread. That's won't happen.

Saying that, this is the BEST sandwich press I've ever owned. I wanted it to make Cuban sandwiches, but have used it for Grilled Cheeses, Flatbread Sandwiches, and Quesadillas.

One thing that makes this so great it that it has a really wonderful, non-stick cooking tray (or whatever the technical term is). There's no need for non-stick sprays or butter. Although I very successfully made Grilled Cheese sandwiches without butter, I wouldn't recommend doing it! They don't taste as good...

  5. I can now make grilled cheese sandwiches, perfect quesadillas, etc. without ever burning myself.

It's simple to use, nonstick, safe, easy to clean.

  7. We chose this grill specifically because it was compact and had a small surface. Everything I could want from a small grill! Easy to clean, easy to use, easy to store.
