Read First Before Buy Sharper Image 8147SI Stainless Steel Interchangeable
I was disappointed when I unwrapped the grill and one of the back feet was broken off. It wasn't a critical part and the grill works fine without it, but the point is - when you buy something, you expect it to be in good condition when you open it. The grill itself has been wonderful. Waffles come out clean and I love making sandwiches with the grill pieces. We opened it flat to make pancakes on one side and cooked sausages with the grill plate on the other side. Before I bought it, I read the reviews and saw that several peopl were unhappy because there is only one flat plate. But I found the grill plate perfect for sausage because it holds it in place for more even cooking. As for being out in the open for cooking, people complained the temperature cooled down too much, but I didn't have any problem. Everything cooked great. The plates are so easy to wash and use. I am VERY happy with my grill and glad I bought it, even with the broken foot.

Sharper Image products are usually top notch. This is no exception. I liked the grill from the first use. A very robust and sturdy product, quality assembly and finish. It looks great in my kitchen and works great, too. I still have to make waffles on it, but so far, I am very satisfied.

BalasHapusCooked Bacon in 3 minutes! Waffles were great. Even substituted waffles for bread! Recommend highly! A piece was broken off in arrival; however, called Wayfairer and they sent me a replacement in 4 days!!!! Very impressed!

BalasHapusI have wanted a Waffle Maker for a long time. I am also a huge fan of The Sharper Image, so when Amazon offered this combination waffle iron, griddle and grill/sandwich press, I snapped it up.
BalasHapusI was so excited to try the waffle maker that I am writing this review based on my experience with that function. But I believe that if it makes good waffles, the most delicate of the possibilities, then I'm sure it functions well as a grill or sandwich maker. After all, the grill plates are not terribly different from the electric grill I already own; just a little bigger.
Anyway, as soon as it arrived, I invited a friend over for breakfast. Several reviewers here have complained that the instructions were scant, but I found that they were perfectly adequate for changing the grill plates and operating the machine, as well as maintaining and cleaning it. As for the cooking functions, any decent cook should really know how to use a waffle iron and a sandwich press, so I had no problems with Sharper Image's failure to include detailed cooking instructions.
Back to the waffle. I invited a friend for breakfast and put on some good music, a pot of coffee and some breakfast links. I mixed the waffle batter, using a standard boxed mix. The grill plates are very easy to change; they snap on and off with no fuss or resistance. I heated the waffle iron, and noted that, despite what some reviewers here have said, the top and lower portions of the grill seemed to heat pretty much evenly. In fact, the top of the waffle browned just as nicely as the bottom. I waited for the steam to stop completely, which took some time, and extracted four very large waffles from the machine. With some butter and organic maple syrup, they were utterly delicious, easily as good as any restaurant waffle I've had, and almost as big as the standard "Belgium" waffle. In fact, they were so delicious, that we used the rest of the batter to make another waffle, and scarfed it down, even though we were quite full from the first batch.
Cleanup was fast and easy. The non-stick surface of the iron plates wiped clean very easily, and the little bit of batter I spilled on the outside of the steel machine wiped right off with a damp sponge.
Again, I'm not sure how the unit does on sandwiches and grilled chicken, but based on its waffle-making abilities, it a winner.
My whole family has been using this daily for several weeks now, and I can't say enough great things about it. For one thing, it has really changed up our eating habits, which I think the three kids were ready for! We have been making panini's, waffles, eggs in a basket, pancakes, grilled cheeses, etc.
BalasHapusIt is nice enough to leave on the counter, and easy enough to use that my kids can take a couple slices of bread and some cheese and have lunch cooked all on their own. Which brings me to the complaints about the lack of directions. That is absolutely true, but it hasn't been a problem for us. The directions for waffles/pancakes are on the packaging, and the other things have been pretty easy to figure out. Changing out the plates is self explanatory, so we've really had no issues. And it couldn't be easier to clean.
BTW- My kids LOVE when we get really 'really crazy' and make panini's or grilled cheese using the waffle plates, or use the panini plates to make super thin waffles or wavy pancakes.
We really do love it, and I just wonder why I put off this purchase for so long!
