Best Review on The Sexy Vegan Cookbook Extraordinary

The Sexy Vegan Cookbook Extraordinary

So at my annual physical my doctor tells me that my cholesterol is too high, and I need to start eating healthier. He recommends that a good way to start is eating a few vegan meals per week. Per reviews I've read on here, I decide to order this cookbook. Turns out to be one of the best purchases I've ever made!

Not only are Brian Patton's recipes delicious and easy to make for the novice cook, but his passages are extremely humorous. He makes cooking fun. The first thing I made was The Seared Hearts of Palm Salad, which was phenomenal. Then I moved on to some of the other recipes and have yet to be disappointed. The Bourbon Tempeh Sliders are a great, healthy alternative to the fast food burgers I used to love. Some of my other favorites include the Lasagna Fauxlognese, the Jambalaya, and The Pretend Italian Sausages.

And the best news yet: after eating about 5 or 6 of these meals per week for the past six months, I have lost 22 pounds! Hoping that Brian Patton releases another cookbook soon!

  1. Usually do not buy books based on some celebrity recommend, but I bought this one because Ed Begley Jr had a blurb on the cover 'Reserve a spot on your bookshelf for this one. Its a must have!'. Inside the book Eed Begley Jr the actor, activist, author and one of my heroes, then notes that one of the most important actions we can take to protect the environment is to adopt a plant based diet.

This is a very modern vegan cookbook since the author has numerous QR codes you can scan to your smartphone or iPad,Kindle, Nook etc, to watch the video. WARNING: This book has youthful humor and language. Didn't bother me, but could offend someone who is conservative/religious and looking for a vegan cookbook. It's also a great book for male friends or family members who are vegan or are open to becoming more vegan. Again this is because of the authors unique humor.

The first chapter is about alcoholic drinks. Ignore it if you don't drink.

Am happy to see that he talks about Seitan, which is a meat substitute that any vegan should know how to make and use. His recipe which has russet potato, chickkpea flour, is good. And easy to make. Even here in the California Sierras our Raley's carries the vital wheat gluten flour. I recommend Bob's Red Mill brand that Amazon.com sells. On page 26 he has a good vegan 'meatball' recipe.

His soup section has some good soups as well. Really liked the Cauliflower and Roasted Fennel Soup on page 64. Its rich and hearty. The Country Veggie Soup is like the veggie soups I grew up on and is a nice reminder that even non vegans probably eat vegan foods more often than they realize. Same with his excellent Minestrone soup on page 66. Since we have a big vegetable garden and local organic farmers markets we like dehydrating vegetables for when we back pack. And this recipe works well when we use our dried vegetables.

Loved the Curry Fried Tofu Salad on page 88 which the author notes stimulates sight, smell, texture, taste senses. And his Southwest Slaw recipe is one to try if you are tried of the same old cole slaw you have been making for years.

Chapter 7 which is Entrees. Many of the 'meat' dishes utilize the Seitan he talks about at the beginning of the book. The last chapter has LOTS of vegan ice cream recipes which tasted better than any store bought vegan frozen dessert we have had.

  2. Brian knows how to entertain. From his fantastically funny youtube videos to clever intros of his various inventive drinks and foods Brian Patton has slowly begun to convert me to a lifestlye that includes the occasional vegetarian dish.

The inclusion of QR codes (if you don't know what they are, buy the book and read the intro) allow quick and easy access to demonstrations on a good amount of his various recipes.

Already tried out the pretend sausage and peppers pizza and was impressed with the texture and flavor. A delicious meal that easily fools the senses.

The inclusion of cocktails in a cookbook is brilliant and the Numbskull (with a hibiscus based syrup) lived up to its name.

You could easily debate how sexy he is based on his pictures, but his cookbook will be a turn on for anyone that enjoys cooking their own meals, a healthier lifetyle, and hates having to follow convoluted and confusing directions.

  3. I've been vegan for many years, I own a large assortment of vegan cookbooks and have read countless more. I can't think of any other cookbook I've wanted to show to every single person that comes to my house. The book is funny (like, really funny), inspired and easy to follow. I love the "WTF" tips and the fact that the pages are splattered with red wine, which is what actually happens to all of my cookbooks. Most vegan cookbooks are written by women, it's refreshing to see one not only written by a man but totally playing up the dude angle with breakfast recipes like "Hangover Hash" and "The Real Man's Quiche", a cocktail called "The Dirty Dudetini" (in the section entitled "Most Important Meal Of The Day") a sandwich called "The S.I.L.F" (you know what I'm saying here), plus chapters dedicated to cocktails, pizza, sandwiches and ice cream. Though the book doesn't have many pictures, it does a great job of catching your attention with fun recipe names, quirky instructions and informative tips throughout. This is the book you give to your brother-in-law that has been talking about eating less meat, your lazy vegan friend that likes snack foods, your co-worker with A.D.D who needs constant entertainment to hold his attention and you pick one up for yourself because it is the damn sexiest cookbook out there.

  4. I went plant based 3 months ago and the first few weeks of it were darn right hard. But, that was all unecessarily so. I wish I had had this book! This book has been a God send. The recipes are delicious not only for newbies like myself but for omni's too. This book has a lot of man and kid friendly food which I really appreciate.

There a lot of recipes within recipes in this book. This seemed daunting to me at first but once I gave it a whirl, I see now why he set it up that way. For instance, I made the tater skinz the first night. I used 3 recipes to complete the meal (the tater skinz recipe, the sour creaminess, and the smoky cheeze). I opted for the pre-marinated tempeh at the market to avoid the 4th recipe. Anyway, it really didn't take that much effort (i.e. no more then 30 minutes as I nuked the potatoes), but it made a ton and I was able to use the leftover sour cream and cheeze throughout the week. Infact, I used the left over cheeze sauce to make mac n'cheese the next night in the time it takes to boil and drain the noodles!. I think we can all appreciate a quick meal once in a while!

I had high blood pressure and was looking for ways to deal with it without medication and adopting a vegan lifestyle has been the answer for me. I'm officially OFF blood pressure medication! And I love Brian's book. His recipes are great for newbies. They are phenomenal AND healthy! I have made a few of my own personal modifications to some of the recipes, reducing the salt in several because I have grown used to less salt, but otherwise, the book is very solid. I have yet to fail with the book!

  5. You have to admire a chef who can transform walnuts and tempeh into meatless sausage and create a tasty vegan blam chowder without requiring any clams to sacrifice their lives. Brian Patton turns vegan cooking on its ear with recipes that are funny, at times irreverent and very, very creative. The big message here is that you can have a tremendous amount of fun with food by designing vegan meal choices. Patton's running commentary and humorous descriptions about each recipe are part of the charm of The Sexy Vegan Cookbook, which feature QR codes for scanning as well as URLs for cooking videos as a special complement for the printed recipes. Don't wait until Valentine's Day to treat yourself or someone you love to this book. Cows, turkeys and chickens around the globe will love you for it!
