Read First Before Buy Goldsource STU 1000 Voltage Transformer Converter
My mom had bought a commercial blender whilst traveling in Asia and needed a transformer to be able to operate it over here in the States. The blender was rated for 1390 watts and even though the machine is rated at 1000 watts, we figured it would be fine since blenders are only used for short amounts of time. The product is nice and hefty and was in good condition when it arrived. It was also very easy to set up. You just pull a pin out from the 240v slot and place it into the 110v slot, plug it in, plug your appliance into the output slot, and turn it on. The machine operated cool and quiet and the blender worked exactly like it should. Certainly not a common purchase, but if you're looking for a decent transformer, this one certainly fits the bill.
The only minor con I can think of is the size of this thing, but there really isn't any getting around it. It comes with the territory for this type of device, especially at a 1000 watt rating. In fact, I'm sure some people would think that it's size would be a positive because you simply wouldn't trust anything that was smaller.
Got this so I could hook up my 110v 52" LCD HDTV and LG blu-ray player here in Europe. I plugged in a power strip to the 110v outlet, and it powers both items without a hitch. Also extremely quiet. If the entire house is silent you can hear the slightest low hum but as soon as the tv comes on then it's undetectable. Very happy with this purchase and may buy another.
BalasHapusI bought this item to replace one that I schlepped all the way from Korea, which blew its fuse one fine day never to work again.
BalasHapusThe recommendation for this product if it is to be used continuously is that one should select a wattage that is at least double that of the appliance one intends to power. I selected the 1 KW unit to drive my 220V Hamilton Beach stand mixer, which I bought abroad, and which is rated at 550W.
The transformer is very sturdy indeed, well built, and all-in-all a professional grade unit that I am sure will answer my needs for years to come. It is larger than you would expect, comes with two multi-format outlets conveniently located in the front of the unit. Mine also shipped with a US/two-pin converter plug. The unit lives unobtrusively on my kitchen counter in the corner behind the stand mixer.
An added bonus for those who will require this feature, is that the unit is not only a step-up transformer (I.e. it steps 110V up to 220V), but it can be used where 220/250V is supplied to step-down the voltage to drive your 110V appliance(s).
I recommend this unit without any hesitation; in fact I have just purchased the Goldsource Step Up and Down Voltage Converter 500W unit to power some table lamps that have been gathering dust in my basement. At $20 or so for the transformer, it beats having to buy two new table lamps!
When I was in the middle of the African Bush providing services for "VERY" Remote Tribal Villages and Orphanages, I use extended Batteries to run everything that I need. So when you get to an area that has any electricity at all, This unit can handle the multiple chargers required to charge the Xpal Laptop Batteries, Multiple Medical instrument Batteries, Multiple Camera Batteries, phone Batteries (including external phone battery) , Multiple Video Camera Batteries, 2 way radio Batteries, and Batteries for Badly Needed Lighting. There was no way I could have done it without this unit. I bought one that blew out in two days. This one is stable areas that have poor quality or inconsistent power stability, Surges, and Frequent Outages. A really wise Choice.
BalasHapusThe only obvious down side is the weight. Traveling with this unit with today's airline luggage fees, weight limits, and or additional weight charges is a real Pain in the REAR END in the airport. None the less, worth every dollar when you look at the end result of stability and reliability.

Goldsource STU-1000 Step Up/Down Voltage Transformer Converter - AC 110/220 V - 1000 Watt
I moved from Germany to USA so I have a few 230V devices to run on 110V.
BalasHapusThis converter works absolutely inconspicious.
You just turn it on, plug a german device in and it just works. No noise no hum at all.
Good product. Highly recommended.
We moved back from overseas and our surround sound had 240 voltage. We tried a converter from a local store, but it burned up within a day. We have been using this one for a few months now and have had no problems. It works great!
BalasHapusI bought two cheaper converters before this one. None of them survived after 3 months. I have used this one for over a year. No problem at all so far. It is little heavy but compact in size. I used a power strip connected to this converter and have several appliance plugged in this power stip. The total power is close to 800 watts. The unit works perfectly.
BalasHapusRead some pretty bad reviews (mixed in with good ones) on this product. As soon as I got mine, I figured out exactly where those people had gone wrong. Either they were trying to save money, or they simply did not know: Not only do you have to take into account the voltage you'll be converting, you ALSO have to make sure you choose the right model for the WATTAGE your device(s) uses. If you overwork it in the wattage area (by overburdening it with too many devices, or devices that require more much wattage the transformer is rated to provide) the unit will exhibit all of the symptoms you read about in those bad reviews: It'll get hot and loud, short out your circuit breaker, and eventually stop working. Choose it right, then USE it right - and don't try to cut corners on cost by choosing a lower wattage than you require. If any thing, choose HIGHER.
BalasHapusI am stationed in Afghanistan. Although I live on an American military base, the current is 240. This converter is lightweight, and supports 1000 watts of electric pull. I have a small refridgerator, electric blanket, clock, light, and some charging devices hooked up to it. I have a microwave which is 900 watts that I will use with this, but will need to add up the current used on all my other devices to see if I need to unplug anything prior to firing up the 900 watt microwave.
BalasHapusThe price was great, and free shipping didn't hurt. I wish I had bought the 2,000 watt converter, but I'm happy with this one.
I moved from Europe to the US and brought with me a nice Harman-Kardon stereo/video/sorround set with a large sub-woofer.
BalasHapusHK being an American company, I thought that I could just switch or solder connections on power supply, but apparently they build completely different units for the two markets.
I bought the Goldsource STU-1000 not even being sure that everything will work (frequency difference) and am happy to report that all is well. Everything works fine, the unit looks good and is completely quiet - no sound at all.
Also doesn't heat too much which indicates that the coils are properly made with no energy waste.
I am very happy with the unit so far (3 months) and would buy it again if the need arises.
